Description
RIX Optics STORM S3R V2 Thermal Scope
384×288, 35mm, 3.5×, 2187-Yard LRF
(3.5 – 14× Magnification & 1,969 Yards of Detection)
The RIX Optics STORM S3R V2 Thermal Scope combines high native magnification, an upgraded high-sensitivity thermal detector and long-range laser ranging in RIX’s compact second-generation STORM platform. Built around a 384×288 VOx thermal sensor with 12 μm pixel pitch and <15 mK NETD, the S3R V2 features a 35mm F1.0 objective lens, 3.5× base magnification, 50 Hz refresh rate, 1,969-yard thermal detection range and built-in 2,187-yard laser rangefinder.
The STORM S3R V2 is designed for hunters who want strong native magnification in a compact thermal riflescope. Its 3.5× base magnification gives the S3R V2 more magnification at startup than the 2.5× S6R V2, making it particularly well suited to hunters who prioritize target detail and precision at distance.
RIX redesigned the STORM V2 platform with improved thermal sensitivity, a larger high-resolution AMOLED display, a new eyepiece, longer eye relief, an upgraded rangefinder and revised mounting geometry. The V2 generation also moves the LRF module to the left side and uses a raised, extended mount to provide additional clearance for bolt-action rifles.
RIX Optics STORM S3R V2 Features:
384×288 Thermal Sensor with <15 mK NETD
At the heart of the RIX STORM S3R V2 is a 384×288-resolution VOx uncooled thermal sensor with a 12 μm pixel pitch, <15 mK NETD and 50 Hz refresh rate. The improved thermal sensitivity allows the detector to recognize smaller temperature differences, helping reveal finer thermal detail when environmental conditions produce lower contrast.
RIX pairs the upgraded detector with its RET image-processing technology, designed to improve thermal clarity, detail and target recognition in challenging hunting conditions. Compared with the previous STORM generation, RIX specifically identifies the new detector, improved imaging algorithms and <15 mK NETD as major V2 imaging upgrades.
35mm F1.0 Lens & 3.5× Native Magnification
The S3R V2 uses a 35mm F1.0 objective lens paired with 3.5× base magnification, giving hunters substantial native magnification before digital zoom is applied.
Digital magnification extends from 1× to 4×, while the S3R V2 provides a 7.5° × 4.6° field of view, equivalent to approximately 13.2 × 8.1 yards at 100 yards. RIX rates thermal detection distance at up to 1,800 meters / 1,969 yards.
This combination makes the S3R V2 particularly attractive to hunters who want a compact 384 thermal scope with stronger native magnification for longer-distance identification and aiming.
Built-In 2,187-Yard Laser Rangefinder
The STORM S3R V2 includes an integrated 2,000-meter / 2,187-yard laser rangefinder, a substantial upgrade over the previous-generation STORM S3R’s 1,312-yard ranging capability.
RIX rates range measurement accuracy at approximately ±1 meter / ±1.09 yards. The V2 rangefinder also incorporates enhanced sensitivity and rain- and fog-oriented algorithms designed to provide more dependable ranging performance in difficult field conditions.
Built-In Ballistic Calculator & 5 Zeroing Profiles
Distance information from the integrated rangefinder works alongside the S3R V2’s built-in ballistic calculation system. The scope can calculate trajectory data and provide aiming guidance based on entered shooting parameters, reducing the amount of manual estimation required when engaging targets at varying distances.
The S3R V2 supports five zeroing profiles, allowing hunters to save multiple rifle, ammunition or ballistic configurations within the optic.
The STORM V2 also supports Freeze Zeroing, which lets the shooter freeze the sight picture after firing and move the reticle to the actual point of impact before saving the corrected zero.
Fine Reticle with 0.26 MOA/Click Adjustment
The STORM S3R V2 uses a fine aiming reticle designed to reduce target obstruction while maintaining a precise aiming point.
RIX specifies an especially fine 0.26 MOA per click adjustment for the S3R V2, providing precise zeroing control for fine point-of-impact corrections.
The scope also offers nine reticle styles, multiple reticle colors and further reticle and LRF customization through the RIX+ App.
1920×1080 AMOLED Display & Redesigned Eyepiece
RIX upgraded the STORM V2 viewing system with a larger 0.49-inch 1920×1080 AMOLED display, replacing the smaller, lower-resolution display found in the previous generation.
The redesigned eyepiece provides 52mm eye relief, while the larger display and updated viewing geometry are intended to produce sharper detail, improved contrast and a more comfortable viewing experience.
Improved AR & Bolt-Action Compatibility
One of the most practical changes to the STORM V2 is its revised physical layout.
RIX moved the laser rangefinder module from the right side of the scope to the left, creating additional clearance around a bolt handle. The new raised and extended Picatinny mounting system also provides greater fore-and-aft adjustment and increased mounting flexibility.
Together, these changes make the S3R V2 better suited to both AR-style rifles and bolt-action rifle platforms.
Compact 1.16 lb Thermal Scope & Handheld Monocular
Despite incorporating a thermal sensor, laser rangefinder, ballistic calculator, recording system and replaceable battery, the S3R V2 measures only approximately 6.4 × 2.9 × 2.6 inches and weighs about 1.16 lb without the external battery.
The STORM V2 can also function as both a thermal riflescope and handheld thermal monocular, allowing hunters to use the optic for observation before mounting or returning it to the rifle. RIX specifically designed the platform around portability and reduced equipment burden in the field.
Wi-Fi, RIX+ App, Recording & 64GB Internal Storage
Built-in Wi-Fi allows the S3R V2 to connect to the RIX+ App for Android and iOS. The app supports live image streaming, wireless firmware updates and additional scope customization.
The S3R V2 can also capture photos and video with audio through its built-in microphone. RIX specifies 1744×1072 photo/video resolution, MP4 and JPG file formats and 64GB of built-in storage.
Replaceable 18650 Battery System
The STORM S3R V2 uses a replaceable rechargeable 18650 battery system, allowing depleted batteries to be swapped in the field rather than requiring the entire optic to be recharged.
RIX rates operating time at approximately 4 hours per battery, and the scope also supports an external 5V USB Type-C power supply.
RIX includes two 18650 batteries and a charger with the S3R V2.
IP67 Protection for Real Hunting Conditions
The S3R V2 carries an IP67 environmental protection rating and is designed to operate from approximately -4°F to +122°F (-20°C to +50°C).
RIX also rates the optic for recoil levels up to 1,000 g / 6,000 J, providing a durable compact platform intended for real-world hunting conditions.
